The Countdown is On… Which Nigerian Players Could Be on the Move?

The clock is ticking as the transfer window nears its close, and the futures of several Nigerian players remain up in the air.

With less than a fortnight left, the next few weeks promise to be a whirlwind of activity.

We take a look at where these players could possibly play next season

This summer’s transfer window has been buzzing with Victor Osimhen’s name.

From the moment the window opened, he’s been linked with numerous clubs, yet nothing has materialized so far.

Several clubs initially showed interest—Saudi clubs, Arsenal, PSG, Chelsea but most backed off when Napoli slapped a hefty €100 million price tag on him.

PSG is now the latest to pull out of the race, shifting their focus to another Nigerian international, Ademola Lookman.

As for Chelsea, the situation remains uncertain. The proposed swap deal involving Lukaku doesn’t seem realistic, and it’s now being treated as a separate deal altogether.

Both clubs are still negotiating, but nothing concrete has emerged yet.

Will Ademola Lookman stay with Atalanta this season? No one knows for sure, but reports suggest Lookman has expressed his desire to leave, catching Gasperini by surprise.

PSG has reportedly offered Lookman a five-year contract with a proposed salary of €4.5 million per season.

Liverpool is also reportedly preparing a bid for Lookman as they seek to strengthen their attack before the window closes.

Arsenal is keeping a close eye on Lookman too. Mikel Arteta is looking to add depth to his squad, and Lookman’s impressive tally of 17 goals and 10 assists last season makes him an appealing option.

Lookman seems to be a hot commodity in the transfer market, and we’ll know his fate in the coming weeks.

Sadiq Umar

Sadiq Umar and Real Sociedad have been at odds throughout this transfer window, with both sides looking to part ways.

Real Sociedad was eager to offload him, as he hasn’t met expectations, and Sadiq also requested to leave, with both parties seeking a mutual exit. However, no deal materialized.

But in a surprising twist, Real Sociedad is making a renewed effort to restore Sadiq’s confidence and reputation as a key player.

As the transfer window nears its end, the club’s president, Aperribay, has recognized the need to work closely with Sadiq to maximize his potential.

They’ve now offered the Super Eagles star a second chance after a failed summer transfer.

We’ll have to wait and see how this one plays out.

Raphael Onyedika

The former Midtjylland player has caught the eye of numerous European and Saudi Arabian clubs eager to secure his services for the upcoming season.

Club Brugge manager Nicky Hayen has hinted at a potential summer exit for the Super Eagles midfielder.

Hayen suggested that Onyedika could be allowed to leave if the right offer comes along, estimating the chances of his departure as high.

Crystal Palace is closely monitoring Onyedika, with their sporting director, Dougie Freedman, reportedly scouting him personally.

Club Brugge has set a minimum fee of 15 million euros for Onyedika, though some sources suggest it could go as high as 20 million pounds (approximately 23 million euros).

Will they splash such an amount? Time will tell.

Chuba Akpom

Chuba Akpom may find himself staying at Ajax this summer, as no club has made a concrete offer for him.

Despite getting some playing time last season, the 28-year-old forward was limited to 25 league appearances, many of which were off the bench. Nonetheless, he managed to score 11 goals and provide three assists.

There were strong rumors that Akpom was set to leave Amsterdam in search of more game time elsewhere.

He was even linked with Nottingham Forest, but nothing came of it. This season, he has started five of six games but has yet to register a goal contribution.

If things remain as they are, Akpom may have to stay at Ajax until at least January.
