Bayer Leverkusen’s manager, Xabi Alonso attributed his team’s victory over Wolfsburg on Sunday to Nathan Tella’s pivotal goal.

The Bundesliga leaders faced a resilient Wolfsburg at the Bay Arena, struggling to break through until Tella’s well-executed header eight minutes past the hour mark secured the lead.

Alonso commended the team’s performance, emphasizing the opening goal provided a crucial advantage, facilitating their subsequent second goal late in the match.

“Obviously the red card changed the game. Though, we started well in the first 30 minutes,” the Leverkusen manager said.

“We spent most of our time in their half, intense and patient. The first goal from Nathan (Tella) was so important just like last week. We didn’t want the counters, we wanted to be patient.

“The victory is important, and I’m happy with the performance.”

Nathan Tella has made a significant impact for Leverkusen this season, scoring five goals and providing one assist in his fifteen appearances.
