England Boss Gareth Southgate has revealed that competition for places in team is higher than ever before, but insists Tammy Abraham is pushing to break into the starting eleven.
England will take on Czech Republic in European Qualifier on Friday with several attacking players in too form for respectively Club’s before teaming up with the three lions.
Southgate however told the media ahead of the game that, only Manchester City forward and Captain Harry are guaranteed a place each in the team’s attacking front three, due to their incredible numbers for Club and Country.
He also added that Chelsea forward Tammy Abraham who dissed Nigeria to represent England is only pushing hard to get into the team as well, after scoring eight premier league goals so far this season.
“Then there was an injury, a drama and a crisis and you need players to be able to start games and you need players who are able to come on and make a difference in games.”
“So, I don’t think it matters what our starting three is. Clearly, at the moment Raheem [Sterling] and Harry [Kane], their numbers are incredible and the consistency of their performance is, but the rest can be down to performance at any given time.”
“And how we see the guys in training and their physical level. These guys know that Tammy coming through is going to push that.”
“Callum Wilson is going to want to push – we can try to motivate the players but that competition for places is as much as a driver than anything else.” Southgate said.
Southgate also confirmed Tammy Abraham and Fikayo Tomori Chelsea teammate Mason Mount who has two substitute appearance for England will start against Czech Republic.
