Neymar seek father’s ‘support’ in an unfeigned message after disclosing his dad was against his big money move to Paris
Neymar yesterday posted an emotional farewell message to Barcelona after completing his world record move to Paris Saint-Germain.
The Brazilian has moved to the French capital for an eye-watering fee of £199million – more than double the previous world transfer record.
His representatives paid the release clause in full on Thursday afternoon and he signed the dotted lines on Thursday evening.
But the former Santos man also sent a deep and sincere message to his dad in the Instagram upload – asking his father to ‘support’ him, while further disclosing he went against the wishes of his father the second time by opting to leave the Nou Camp.
“I prepared a text here for today,” Neymar posted.
“The life of an athlete is made by challenges. Some are given to us. Others are fruits of our own decisions to keep the light that illuminates our career, which is intense, but short.
“Barcelona was much more than a challenge, it was the dream of a child who played with those stars through the video game.
“I arrived at Catalonia when I was 21 years old, filled with challenges.
“I remember my first days in the club, sharing the dressing room with idols like Messi, Valdés, Xavi, Iniesta, Puyol, Piqué, Busquets and others with the expectation of playing in a club that is ‘more than a club’.
“Barcelona is a club that represents Catalonia!
“I had the honour of playing with the greatest athlete I’ve ever seen in my life and I’m sure I will not see another better, Messi became my partner, friend on and off the pitch. Proud to play with you.
“I formed an attack with Messi and Luis Suarez that is left for the story. I have conquered everything an athlete can conquer.
“I have lived unforgettable moments! I live in a city that is more than a city, it is a homeland. I love Barcelona and Catalunya.
“But an athlete needs challenges. And for the second time in my life I will take the opposite of my father.
“Papa, I understand and respect your opinion, but my decision is taken, I ask you to support me as you have always done.
“Barcelona and Catalunya will always be in my heart but I need new challenges.
“I have accepted the proposal of PSG to find new achievements and help the club achieve the titles that the fans expect. I have presented a daring career plan and I am prepared for this challenge.
“I thank the affection of the Blaugrana fans and all that I have learned from the athletes with whom I have shared a dressing room.
“I also feel in my heart that the time has come to leave. PSG will be my new home for the next few years and I will work to honour the trust they place in my football.
“I count on the support of all. Fans, my friends, the professionals who accompany me and my family, who have suffered a lot with problems that have occurred in this period of my career and deserve peace.
“It is a difficult decision, but taken with the maturity of my 25 years.
“May God bless and protect us!”
NEYMAR has told Barcelona that he plans to leave the club, with a blockbuster move to Paris Saint-Germain seemingly imminent.
The club said Wednesday that the Brazil striker told his teammates “that he had the intention of leaving the club and seeking his future elsewhere, and the coach has given him permission to leave training.”
PSG is rumored to be ready to pay his release clause of 222 million euros ($262 million).
That would dwarf the 105 million euros (then $116 million) that Manchester United paid for France midfielder Paul Pogba last year.

Barcelona said Neymar did not specify where he wants to play next, but the only club speculated to be after him – and one of few which could handle the cost of the transfer – is the Qatari-owned PSG.
Barcelona said Neymar left the training ground 30 minutes after arriving on Wednesday. He had arrived to Spain on Tuesday night after holding publicity events for both his personal brand and Barcelona in China.
With his lightning-quick feet, creative instincts and scoring touch, Neymar helped maintain Barcelona as one of the top clubs in Europe for the past four seasons as he blossomed into a worldwide star.
He teamed up with Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez to make an almost unstoppable attack. Neymar scored 105 goals – some of them true gems – and was a key playmaker for Barcelona as it won a Champions League, two Spanish leagues, three Copa del Reys, one Club World Cup, a UEFA Super Cup and two Spanish Super Cups.
Yet, even before this drawn-out saga, Neymar also provided more than one headache for his club.
His transfer from Brazilian club Santos in 2013 became the source of a legal dispute that has dogged Barcelona even since. Barcelona said at the time that his transfer cost 57 million euros, while an investigative judge says that the real cost was at least 83.3 million euros.
Now Bartomeu and predecessor Sandro Rosell, who resigned as president of the club amid the transfer scandal, are facing trial on charges of fraudulent administration.
Neymar has also mixed his flair for fancy goals with bouts of immaturity on the field, often needlessly taunting defenders and trying to upstage them with his dribbling skills.
But nobody doubts Neymar is one of the greatest talents of his generation. PSG saw it first-hand in last season’s Champions League. In his most memorable performance at Camp Nou, Neymar scored two goals and set up two more to lead Barcelona to a 6-1 rout to overturn PSG’s 4-0 first-leg win in the last 16. Unless PSG gets last-second jitters, Neymar will take over a team that is searching for a leader who can achieve elusive Champions League success.
Paris Saint-Germain have confirmed they have signed Timothy Weah, son of African legend George Weah, to his first professional contract.
Jose Mourinho believes that Cristiano Ronaldo is just angling for more money from Real Madrid as he threatens to quit Bernabéu.
Mourinho has ruled out the return of Ronaldo to Old Trafford after the 32 year old stated he’s unhappy with what he perceives to be unfair treatment following a tax dispute with the Spanish authorities.
The Spanish authorities are pursuing £13m in unpaid tax which has led to reports in the Portuguese and Spanish media that the player wants to leave Madrid, with fresh reports emerging of a return to Manchester United.
But an inside source who has close ties with Mourinho revealed that a possible return is not going to happen.
Asked if Mourinho expected Ronaldo’s return, a United insider said: “No. Ronaldo wants only money from Real, nothing more.”
Ronaldo, became the best-paid sportsmen in the world after moving to Madrid from Old Trafford and reports have it that the value Real have placed on him, is worth between £131m and £350m.
The Portuguese star has scored a club-record 406 goals in his 394 appearances for Real.
According to reports, both Paris-Saint Germain and Bayern have also been linked with a move for the four time Ballon D’Or winner, but Perez has dismissed any prospect of his player joining the Ligue 1 side or the German giants.
