Home based captain of the Nigeria’s basketball team, Abdul yahaya has hailed his team players and management following the team’s successful campaign at the President Cup and qualification to the final 8.
D’Tigers player Abdul Yaya has stated that he is sure of Nigeria’s ability to go all the way to the end of the first edition of the Africa cup of nations for home based basketball players which will have its first jump ball later today in Bamako, Mali.
Yahaya speaking in a chat with www.brila.net said the team is fully aware of their standing as Nigerians and knows what the players can do.
He added that they fear no foes and would be prosecuting matches at the tournament with positive energy.
“When it comes to basketball, Nigeria is one of the best countries so we are going there with positive energy of returning home with something fantastic.
We’re going there to play Basketball to face every team one after the other. So I don’t need to think of anybody.”
Abdul Yahaya and Dike Azouma both headline the names of players invited by D’Tigers 3×3 Head Coach Chris Acha for the 2019 African Games preparatory camp.

Kano Pillars basketball player Abdul Yahaya has stated that Nigeria basketball league players are happy with the return of the 2019 basketball league season after having been out for a long time.
An excited Yahaya speaking in a chat with www.brila.net said basketball league players have mostly been out of jobs for so long with a short hurriedly organised one week window organised last season just to pick continental representative unlike now that they have a more longer season to look forward to.
He added that this will gladden the heart of many basketball players in Nigeria.
“I’m very happy that basketball is alive in Nigeria. For the players, the players have been out of job for a very long time but I am very happy right now, everybody have something they can look forward to with the league about to start. Now we have a job again.”
The plight of Basketball players in Nigeria should be a cause for concern as the no date for the league drags on and basically, the players are out of the job.
Abdu Yahaya has confirmed his move from Pillars to Rivers Hoopers ahead of the FIBA Africa Basketball League Group A tip off next month.
Since booking a spot in the ABL from the zonal qualifiers, Hoopers had made Yahaya a priority acquisition and inside sources had informed brila.net that negotiations had been ongoing for the Power Forward.
Confirming the move Yahaya said the deal left all the parties involved satisfied. Meanwhile, he also suggested the deal was a short term commitment that would run for the duration of the ABL.
Hoopers get their League campaign under way on March 1 against holders, AS Sale of Morocco.
Nigeria’s Men 3×3 team finished third in the Africa Cup following their 21-19 points win over DR Congo, while the Women’s team came up short in fourth position in their event.
