The Super Falcons of Nigeria will discover their group stage opponents for the rescheduled 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) on Friday, November 22, when the official draw is held at the Mohammed VI Technical Centre in Sale, Morocco.
The Confederation of African Football (CAF) confirmed the details of the draw in a statement, which will determine the groups for the 12 nations competing in the tournament.
Originally scheduled for 2024, the WAFCON has been postponed to 2025, with the tournament now set to take place from July 5 to July 26 in Morocco.
The draw will start at 20:00 local time (19:00 GMT) and will be broadcast live on major channels across Africa and internationally.
The Super Falcons, the most successful team in the tournament’s history with 11 titles, are looking to reclaim the crown after failing to win their 12th title in 2022.
The South African Banyana Banyana, who defeated Morocco in the final to secure their first-ever title, are expected to be their biggest rivals.
Nigeria secured their place in the 2024 WAFCON with a dominant 7-1 aggregate victory over Cape Verde in the final round of qualifiers.
Nigeria will be joined by other top sides such as South Africa, Zambia (2022 bronze medalists), hosts Morocco, Ghana, Senegal, and Tunisia in the competition.
The Falcons are in excellent form, having defeated Algeria twice in friendly matches in October, and will face France on November 30 as part of their ongoing preparations for the tournament.
