Nigeria’s WNT, the Super Falcons, secured a narrow 1-0 victory over South Africa in the first-leg Paris 2024 Olympic Games qualifiers held at the MKO Stadium in Abuja.
In a tightly contested match, Rasheedat Ajibade’s first half penalty proved decisive, handing the Super Falcons a crucial advantage heading into the second leg in Pretoria next week.
The penalty was awarded after Chiwendu Ihezuo was brought down in the box late in the first half, with Ajibade calmly converting the spot kick.
A win or a draw would secure their qualification for the Paris 2024 Olympics Women’s Football event, as the winner on aggregate will advance to the prestigious tournament.
The Super Falcons will look to maintain their momentum and secure their spot in the Olympic Games as they prepare for the decisive second leg encounter against South Africa.
