Super Falcons Maintain Position in Latest FIFA Rankings

The Super Falcons of Nigeria have retained their 36th position in the latest FIFA Women’s World Rankings, released on Friday, August 16, 2024, by the world football governing body.

The Falcons remain Africa’s top-ranked team despite their disappointing performance at the 2024 Paris Olympics.

South Africa’s Banyana Banyana climbed to 50th place, while Tunisia is now 58th.

The Falcons finished last in their Olympic group, which included finalists Brazil, Japan, and world champions Spain. They lost 1-0 to Brazil and Spain, and 3-1 to Japan, missing out in a possible third place qualification.

Meanwhile, Zambia, Africa’s other Olympic representative, moved up to 62nd in the rankings, despite also losing all three group games.

Globally, the United States reclaimed the top spot after winning gold in Paris, Brazil rose to eighth, and Spain fell to third place.

The next FIFA Women’s World Rankings will be released on December 20, 2024.
