In preparation for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, Nigeria WNT, the Super Falcons, faced a setback in their final test following a 1-0 defeat to Canada, on Wednesday night.

Canada took an early lead in the 18th minute, capitalizing on an error by the Super Falcons defense.

Despite their efforts to overturn the result and maintain their unbeaten run, Randy Waldrum’s were unable to find the breakthrough.

The closest opportunity came in the second half when Jennifer Echegini’s powerful strike hit the post, narrowly missing the net.

Wednesday’s defeat marked the end of Nigeria’s 15-game unbeaten streak, with their last loss over 90 minutes occurring against Colombia in February 2023.

The team will land in Bordeaux on Thursday night ahead of the 2024 Olympic Games, where they will be based at the Hotel Mercure.

Nigeria will commence their Olympic campaign with a crucial match against Brazil in Bordeaux, followed by matches against Spain and Japan.

Will the Super Falcons Advance from the Group Stage?

Despite the loss to Canada, the Super Falcons are eager to make a mark as they return to the Olympic stage after a 16-year absence.

Coach Randy Waldrum will have some extra work and tactical adjustments to prepare for challenging matches against football powerhouses Spain and Brazil.

The 11-time African champions have the quality and determination to put up a fight and perform strongly to qualify out of the group.
