Former assistant coach of the Nigeria WNT, the Super Falcons, Mansur Abdullahi praised the outcome of the team’s opening group game at the FIFA Women’s World Cup.

Nigeria held Canada to a goalless result at the Melbourne Rectangular Stadium, despite finishing the game with 10 players.

In a post game interview with BRL, Abdullahi commended the team’s resilience, but identified areas of the team that need improvement before the next game.

“A decent recent, but the Coach now needs to work some more on the team’s defending as well as discipline,” said the former Super Falcons coach.

“We conceded a penalty and got a red card today; it could have been worse.”

Abdullahi further told BRL that the Super Falcons can do more and should endeavor to get better in their next fixture.

He added that the team should also be psyched up to seize moments when it comes to them in the course of their participation at the tournament.

It was an exciting goalless encounter, which saw Chiamaka Nnadozie make a big penalty save in the 50th minute after a barren first half.

With the game drawing to a close, World Cup debutant, Deborah Abiodun was shown a straight red, forcing the team to push further back to defend.
