Super Falcons head coach, Justin Madugu, has raised the possibility of more players joining the squad for their upcoming friendly match against France, after calling up just 20 players, compared to 23 for their last fixture.
Speaking ahead of the game, Madugu explained that injuries and logistical challenges have played a role in the reduced squad size.
He also indicated that some players who were unavailable due to injury might still have a chance to be included if they are cleared by medical staff.
“We had some logistic challenges which made it a bit challenging for us to get the number of players that we really wanted,” Madugu said.
“One or two of them got injured in their last games and we’re looking at how they are being assessed currently for us to be able to know if they can also make it or not. So hopefully by Thursday we’ll get a report of that too.”
Madugu also provided insight into the selection process for the France match, noting that the quality of the opposition was a key factor in choosing the squad.
He added that the reduced number of home-based players was due to the ongoing participation of Edo Queens in the CAF Women’s Champions League, which left him unable to select from their ranks due to unresolved issues.
The Super Falcons are gearing up for the friendly match against France, with final squad decisions expected to be made in the coming days.
