Nigeria’s Super Falcons captain, Rasheedat Ajibade, delivered a clutch performance to lead Atlético Madrid to a 2-0 extra-time victory over Cacereño in the Copa de la Reina quarterfinals on Tuesday.

Despite Atlético dominating possession, the match remained goalless after 90 minutes, with a potential winner ruled out for offside.

However, Ajibade broke the deadlock in the 116th minute, capitalizing on a defensive error as Cacereño failed to clear a cross from the right.

The former Avaldsnes forward reacted quickest, tapping the ball home to give Atlético the lead.

Just two minutes later, Sheila Pinto sealed the win, ensuring Atlético’s place in the semifinals of Spain’s premier women’s cup competition.

Ajibade, who was introduced in the 64th minute to replace Tatiana Pinto, made an instant impact, marking her first Copa de la Reina goal of the season.

The Nigerian forward now boasts six goals and one assist in 14 Liga F games this season.

Atlético Madrid will now shift focus back to the league, with a crucial clash against Deportivo La Coruña on February 16, 2025.
