Super Falcon Can Do the Unthinkable, I believe – Okosieme

Former Super Falcons skipper and pioneer member of the Nigeria women’s Football national team Nkiru Okosieme said the current has shown they can go far in the 2023 Women’s World Cup.

The Super Falcons stunned co-host Australia, 3-2, in their group B match at the Lang Park on Thursday.

The team are unbeaten in two games having picked four points from matches against Canada and Australia, who are ranked 7th and 10th respectively in the World.

Okosieme, who spoke on Brila FM’s Big interview, said the belief among the players is infectious.

“With our offensive power combined with defence, if we can put our heads down, play with a lot of determination and passion, that we’ve shown.

“Be committed to what we’re doing, and if God helps us by keeping injuries away from us, then of course, yes we can get to that point.

“If Onome (Ebi) is saying that this is the year, then I’m also singing the same song with her that this is the time we can rise up to that level.”

“Nigeria can definitely get to that place if they keep working hard.

“If we play to win, we can’t continue playing defensive all the time.

“You have to come out a little bit and attack, and we showed a little bit of that which resulted in the goals that we had. If we continue to do the same, yes, we can get to that semi-final stage.

The Super Falcons will return to action, Monday, in the final group match against the already eliminated Republic of Ireland.

A point against the Europeans will be enough to confirm Nigeria’s place in the round of 16.
