Super Eagles won’t Underestimate Sierra Leone – Balogun
36
Leon Balogun revealed why he missed the Super Eagles tour of United States of America last month.
Balogun is one of the nine regular players who pulled out of the trip where Nigeria played Mexico and Ecuador.
The CB is however back in the squad for the African Cup of Nations qualifiers against Sierra Leone and he explained to Brila.net why he wasn’t in the United States.
“I was recovering from a knock in the Scottish Cup final and I just consulted the management team and they said they gave permission to sit out of the games to be fit for qualifiers and that was it,” he told Brila.net.
Today, the Super Eagles go up against the Leone Stars as they kick start their 2023 African Cup of Nations qualifiers.
The game will back the memories of disappointing 4-4 draw between both side at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium in Benin City two years ago.
Following the draw, Balogun, said they have learnt not to underestimate any team and assured that the team will get the job done this time.
“That’s in the past, there is no reason to dwell on it, but it’ll remind us not to underestimate any opponent and too feel comfortable during a match.
“I’m sure they’ll come up with a new team and and we’ll be ready,” Balogun concluded.
