The Super Eagles of Nigeria will learn their group stage opponents for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, AFCON on Wednesday, January 27, 2025, as announced by CAF following its executive committee meeting held in Marrakech, Morocco, on Monday.
The draw ceremony will take place in Rabat, Morocco, with 24 qualified nations, including hosts Morocco, set to be drawn into six groups of four teams.
Nigeria’s Road to Qualification
The Super Eagles secured their spot in the tournament in dominant fashion, finishing at the top of their group with 11 points and qualifying with a game to spare.
The three-time African champions emerged as group leaders ahead of Benin, Rwanda, and Libya.
Chasing a Fourth AFCON Title
Nigeria will head into the tournament with their sights set on a fourth AFCON crown, their last triumph coming in 2013.
At the 2023 edition, the Super Eagles narrowly missed out on the title, finishing as runners-up after a 2-1 defeat to hosts Côte d’Ivoire in the final.
The 2025 Africa Cup of Nations is scheduled to run from Sunday, December 21, 2025, to Sunday, January 18, 2026, in Morocco.
With the draw date now confirmed, the Super Eagles will soon discover the first hurdles on their path to reclaiming Africa’s most coveted football trophy.
