The upcoming Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifying match between Nigeria and Libya, scheduled for Tuesday, is now in jeopardy due to complications surrounding the Nigerian team’s arrival in Libya.
The Super Eagles has been stranded at a Libyan airport for over ten hours after arriving in the country.
The team was initially scheduled to land in Benghazi, as arranged by the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), but Libyan authorities insisted the flight be diverted to Al Abaq Airport.
Despite initial resistance from the pilot, the aircraft eventually landed in Al Abaq, leaving the team unable to communicate with officials in Benghazi.
Efforts to resolve the situation have been complicated by bureaucratic delays.
The Nigerian embassy in Libya has been in contact with the Libyan government, but approval to proceed to Benghazi is still pending.
Reports suggest that the Nigerian players are now physically and mentally drained after the prolonged ordeal, casting serious doubt on their readiness for the match.
The Super Eagles play the second leg of their AFCON qualifier on Tuesday, following a 1-0 victory in the first leg last Friday.
