Super Eagles Senior Players Mikel, Onazi, Echiejile Jets Off To Uyo

Three senior players of the national team John Obi Mikel, Elderson Echiejile and Eddy Onazi have jetted off to the Akwa Ibom State capital ahead of Friday’s World Cup qualifier against Cameroon.The Tianjin Teda midfielder is the substantive captain of the Super Eagles, Onazi is assistant captain while the Monaco loanee is the second most experienced player in the current roster.

The Nigeria Football Federation, via their official Twitter handle, have uploaded photos of the team at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Local Wing just before their flight took off.

As previously reported , former Warri Wolves stars Oghenekaro Etebo and Daniel Akpeyi have already landed in Nigeria, and the NFF confirmed as much after uploading a photo of the duo at the airport.

Rohr has largely kept fate with his regular squad, including goalkeepers Daniel Akpeyi, Ikechukwu Ezenwa and Dele Alampasu.

Defenders William Ekong, Elderson Echiejile and Abdullahi Shehu, midfielders Ogenyi Onazi, John Ogu, Wilfred Ndidi and Oghenekaro Etebo, forwards Ahmed Musa, Moses Simon, Alex Iwobi and Kelechi Iheanacho made the list.

Nigeria welcomes the reigning African champions to the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium, Uyo on Sept. 1, before flying to Yaounde for a quickfire return session on Sept. 4.

The Super Eagles are top of Africa’s 2018 FIFA World Cup Qualifying Group B with six points, after wins over Zambia and Algeria in their first two matches.

The Lions lie second with only two points following 1-1 draws with Algeria and Zambia.
