Nigeria’s national team coach, Finidi George is reportedly considering the inclusion of Udinese’s goalkeeper Maduka Okoye in the squad for the upcoming FIFA World Cup qualifiers against South Africa and Benin Republic.

Sources close to the team revealed that Finidi has included Okoye in the roster for the upcoming matches, signaling a possible comeback for the shot-stopper.

 

The 24 year-old has not played for the Super Eagles since the 2022 Africa Cup of Nations round of 16 clash with Tunisia.

His hiatus from national team duty stemmed from the online abuse he endured from fans, prompting him to prioritize his club career.

Despite his absence, Okoye has been excelling at Udinese, where he has become the first-choice goalkeeper.

His impressive form, including standout performances against top teams like Juventus, has garnered attention, earning him the player of the month award for Udinese in March.

However, Maduka Okoye will face tough competition from Stanley Nwabali, the current first-choice goalkeeper for Nigeria.
