Super Eagles Ready To Silent Free-Scoring Angolans — Omeruo

Super Eagles CB, Kenneth Omeruo says the team is not thinking about history as they gear up for Friday’s quarter-final match against Angola in the Africa Cup of Nations.

Omeruo added that they are committed to let their performance on the field speak do the talking.

The showdown between Nigeria and Angola is scheduled for Friday at the Felix Houphouet Boigny Stadium in Abidjan.

The Palanca Negras stopped Nigeria from qualifying for the 2006 FIFA World Cup.

“We have not played Angola for a long time but I remember we played them in 2012 in a friendly and it ended in a draw,” Omeruo recalls.

“I have also read of how previous encounters between the two countries have been quite close.

“There is no possibility of Friday’s match ending in a draw; a winner must emerge. So much talk has been going on. Our collective resolve is to do the talking on the pitch. The Nigerian spirit trumps all.”

Nigeria recorded a 2-0 victory over Cameroon in the round of 16 to secure their spot in the last 8, while Angola triumphed 3-0 triumph against Namibia in thesame stage.

While the Super Eagles eyeing their fourth continental title, the match marks the Black Antelopes’ return to the AFCON quarter finals after a 14-year hiatus.

Looking ahead to the encounter, Omeru stressed the team’s focus on delivering a compelling performance on the pitch.

“We drew our first match (against Equatorial Guinea) and many people concluded that we are not here to compete strongly for the trophy.

“They have since admitted that we may be up to something after we defeated Cote d’Ivoire, and then Cameroon. We must continue to work hard, believe in ourselves and put in a solid shift each day and time we get onto the field.”
