Former chairman of the technical committee of the NFF, Barrister Chris Green has submitted that the reason for the Eagles struggling at the AFCON 2019 in Egypt is due to the absence of Trabzonspor of Turkey midfielder.
Eddy Onazi, who did not make it to the tournament with the rest of the team due to injury, as he would have added something extra to the midfield.
The Eagles finished second in Group B behind Madagascar, following their 2-0 loss to the AFCON debutants over the weekend
Speaking with brila.net, Green added that both Etebo and Ndidi win balls for the team, which is not helping them spray those vital passes upfront, something Onazi knows how to do quite well, added to his defensive midfield abilities.
“If we had an Onazi, a very fit Onazi, it would have been better for us”.
“Instead we have both Wilfred Ndidi and Etebo are playing the defensive midfield positions, both players are in the middle of the park where Ndidi is marking and Etebo is doing a lot of marking as well”.
“But the truth of the matter is that because of this positions, they are not really able to spray those passes that will cause problems for opposing teams”.
