Super Eagles captain, William Troost-Ekong insists Jose Peseiro has the team’s backing and want him to continue as head coach.
Peseiro’s contract will expire at the end of February and Nigeria Football Federation have been coy on extension.
The Portuguese however has been courted by the Algeria Football Federation and their Tunisian counterparts.
Ekong however revealed the players want the Federation to keep the 63 year-old gaffer.
“Yes. I think the players are happy with him. Reaching the final is something significant and also something we can build on,” Troost-Ekong said in an exclusive interview with CNN World Sports Amanda Davies.
On Peseiro’s situation with the NFF, Ekong who plays for PAOK Salonika Greece said:
“However, on what he had in mind, I did try to ask him before we left and he said he’s going to call me back.
“I think I’m just as much in the dark as you guys are but I think all the players would be happy to see him back.”
Jose Peseiro guided the Super Eagles to a second-place finish at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.
Under his watch, William Troost-Ekong scored three goals and won tournament’s most valuable player award.
