Super Eagles forward Ademola Lookman delivered a standout performance despite Atalanta’s 3-2 defeat to Real Madrid in their UEFA Champions League clash at the Gewiss Stadium on Tuesday.
The loss marked Atalanta’s first defeat in the competition this season and ended their impressive 14-game unbeaten streak at home, dating back to late September.
Kylian Mbappe opened the scoring for Real Madrid in the 10th minute, but Atalanta equalized through Charles De Ketelaere’s composed penalty in first-half stoppage time.
The second half saw Real Madrid surge ahead. Vinicius Jr. pounced on a rebound to restore the visitors’ lead in the 56th minute, followed shortly by Jude Bellingham’s clinical strike on the counterattack in the 59th minute.
Lookman pulled one back for Atalanta in the 65th minute with a stunning curling effort, his third goal in this season’s Champions League.
The 27-year-old’s performance earned him the Man of the Match award despite the defeat.
Lookman was a constant threat to the Real Madrid defence, attempting eight shots—three on target, three off target, and two blocked.
He also showcased his creativity, completing three successful dribbles out of seven attempts and providing two key passes, one of which created a significant goal-scoring opportunity.
With an impressive passing accuracy of 88% (29 out of 33 passes), Lookman demonstrated both efficiency and flair in possession.
He has now tallied 11 goals and five assists in 18 appearances across all competitions this season, further cementing his reputation as a pivotal player for Atalanta.
