Victor Boniface says the Super Eagles are focused on upcoming FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Lesotho, not next year’s Africa Cup of Nations.

Nigeria have been drawn against tournament hosts Ivory Coast alongside Equatorial Guinea and Guinea Bissau, in the 2023 Cup of Nations which gets underway in January.

The three-time Champions start their campaign with an opening game against Equatorial Guinea in Abidjan.

Speaking after the friendly against Saudi Arabia, Boniface admitted the tournament is important to Nigeria, but said the team is only thinking about the crucial World Cup qualification game against Lesotho billed for November.

“We are looking at the World Cup qualification game first, then after that, we look into the Nations Cup,” He said.

He also added that the Super Eagles need time to gel together as a team.

“You can say we have really good individual team, we are always bringing the best from different leagues so you can say it takes time for us to really build something which we are working on, but I think in the long run, we can actually achieve our aims.”
