Alex Iwobi and Calvin Bassey produced a brilliant performance as Fulham shared a point with Manchester United at Craven Cottage.
The first half ended goalless as both sides were wasteful. Manchester United hit the woodwork twice in the 2nd and 3rd minutes through Matheus Cunha, and Bruno Fernandes sent his penalty into the stands in the 36th minute.
Fulham’s first-half opportunities came mostly from corners, but their best chance came in the 16th minute following Calvin Bassey’s shot, which was going in but was blocked by Patrick Dorgu.
Manchester United went ahead in the 58th minute through a corner. Bryan Mbeumo delivered a perfect cross into the box,
Leny Yoro headed it, and it deflected into Rodrigo Muniz’s path and went past Bernd Leno.
Fulham leveled the score in the 73rd minute. Emile Smith Rowe scored with his first shot of the game. Iwobi played in a dangerous cross from the left, which Smith Rowe connected with properly, sending it into the back of the net.
Both sides tried to score the winner, but it never came.
Manchester United have now dropped five points from six, and Fulham has only two points from their opening two games.
Although the hosts are still waiting for their first win, head coach Marco Silva can take positives from Iwobi and Bassey’s performances today.
Iwobi made five passes into the final third, pressed higher up the pitch, winning the ball in key areas, which led to him coming up with the assist that gave Fulham a point.
He made 42 accurate passes, which were mostly progressive, and had one shot on target.
Meanwhile, Bassey showed calmness on the ball and was resolute at the back. He made five clearances and six ball recoveries.
The 25-year-old also contributed to the team’s attack, giving 32 accurate passes, putting in one cross into the box, and three passes into the final third.
