Sunshine Stars dent Enyimba’s hope of continental football next season

Enyimba’s hope of qualifying for the CAF Champions League or the Confederations Cup suffered a big blow after playing 1-1 at home against Sunshine Stars on Monday.

The Aba Elephants needed at least three points from the match to remain 3rd on the log and in touch with Nasarawa United, but a second half spirited efforts from the strugglers ruined their day.

Enyimba were lucky not to go behind in the first half as Fuad Ekelojuoti and Kehinde Adedipe wasted golden opportunities to put Sunshine Stars in front.

The second half opened up like the first but the People’s Elephants were too handful to stop at the stroke of the hour mark, as they broke the deadlock through Emmanuel Ampiah who scraped home from a lose ball inside the area.

Sunshine Stars levelled the scored sixteen minutes later through defender, Ejike Uzoechi who guided home from an intial Ekelojuoti’s header which was parried by the goalkeeper.

Goalkeeper Uche Okafor prevented Enyimba from scoring the winner as he made two crucial saves to earn his side a point from the game.

The point boosted Sunshine Stars hope of beating the drop, while Enyimba slipped from 3rd to 5th position with 63 points.
