Sunderland have officially announced the signing of Nigerian forward, Ahmed Abdullahi from Belgian Pro League side KAA Gent.
Abdullahi, 20, joins the Black Cats on a four-year contract, with the option of an additional year.
While the transfer fee remains undisclosed, Abdullahi’s move follows an impressive season where he scored 21 goals in 28 league appearances for Gent’s B Team.
Sunderland’s sporting director, Kristjaan Speakman, had a few words for the new addition.
“We are delighted to welcome Ahmed to Sunderland. He is a natural centre forward, who enjoys playing in central areas, in addition to being an excellent finisher. He has an impressive goalscoring record at youth level and he recently stepped up into Gent’s senior team.”
Ahmed Abdullahi was also part of the Nigerian Flying Eagles squad that competed in the 2022 Africa U-20 Cup of Nations in Egypt.
His arrival at Sunderland is expected to add competition and depth to the club’s attacking options.
