VfB Stuttgart is reportedly in advanced negotiations to sign Ajax forward Chuba Akpom, as the German club has reignited its interest in the Nigerian-born striker.
Akpom, who joined Ajax in August 2023, arrived with high expectations following his pivotal role in Middlesbrough’s Championship playoff run during the 2022/2023 season.
However, some Ajax fans have questioned whether he truly deserves to wear the club’s iconic red and white colors.
In 31 appearances for Ajax across all competitions , Akpom registered 15 goals and three assists
Late last month, Ajax deemed Akpom surplus to requirements and listed him among seven players set to depart the club.
Stuttgart has long been admirers of the Arsenal product, who is also a Super Eagles hopeful, and they were strongly linked with a move for him in January.
However, the deal fell through as Ajax decided to retain the striker for the second half of the season.
According to reports from Bild via Voetbal Primeur, Stuttgart has targeted Akpom as a replacement for Serhou Guirassy.
Is Ajax Ready to Sell?
Ajax is now prepared to sell Akpom, partly due to the need to generate funds for new signings.
