Lazio legend Bruno Giordano has shared his thoughts on the ide
al role for Super Eagles midfielder Fisayo Dele-Bashiru within the team as they prepare to face Bologna in Serie A.
Giordano, a prolific forward for Lazio from 1975 to 1985 with 86 goals in 203 appearances, also represented Italy with 13 caps and one goal.
Speaking in an interview with Radio Laziale via Noi Biancocelesti, he praised Dele-Bashiru’s versatility and tactical adaptability.
“I think Dele-Bashiru can be a midfielder only in an emergency,” Giordano noted. “Naturally, as we’ve seen with the Nigerian national team, he is a player accustomed to playing in the three-quarters.
However, in case of absences in midfield, he can be an alternative in case of various injuries.”
Giordano also emphasized Dele-Bashiru’s ability to adapt to various tactical setups, depending on the coach’s strategy and the type of match.
“He is a player inclined to play facing the opponent’s goal; he can be adaptable, but Vecino can also play in the three-quarters.
It depends on the type of match and the choices the coach wants to make.
The important thing is to have players who allow you to change.”
Dele-Bashiru joined Lazio on a season-long loan from Turkish side Hatayspor, with the option to make the transfer permanent for a fee of €7 million. If activated, the 23-year-old could extend his contract with Lazio until 2028.
So far, the midfielder has made seven appearances for the Biancocelesti, starting five matches and averaging 54 minutes per game.
His contributions include a goal and two assists, all coming in the UEFA Europa League.
