Luciano Spalletti explained why he substituted star forward Victor Osimhen against Atalanta on Saturday.
Osimhen, 23, was Napoli’s hero once more as he scored one and created the second to guide the Partenopei to a 2-1 win at Bergamo.
Spalletti however substituted the striker for Giovanni Simeone in the second half.
In his post match presser, the Napoli Coach said it was due to tiredness and nothing more.
“He was a little tired today, but still created chances, caused issues and when Atalanta pushed their wing backs higher with the strikers wide, he was alone in midfield and in those situations can do more than he did tonight,” Spalletti recalled.
Osimhen has scored eight goals in the Serie A this season — more than anyone, despite missing six weeks of action, but Spalletti is still not entirely satisfied with the Nigerian.
“Osimhen is a player who has these sudden surges and spurts, but he needs to every now and then also figure out how to pass it and work with his teammates,” He concluded.
