Spalletti berates Attackers for not Connecting with Osimhen

Napoli are out of the UEFA Champions League after a second leg, 1-1 draw with AC Milan at the Diego Maradona Stadium in Naples on Tuesday.

Napoli trailed 1-0 from the first leg in San Siro and needed a big score victory to qualify for the semi final.

The Partenopei welcomed back top scorer, Victor Osimhen, for the tie after been sidelined for 20 days with an adductor muscle injury.

Osimhen was frustrated all night as he was left alone up front for most part the game.

In addition Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, Irving Lozano and Matteo Politano were too predictable, cutting inside and forcing play rather than linking the striker in the box.

Osimhen did manage a goal, but it came late in the game, to cancel out Olivier Giroud’s first half opener for the visitors, but Napoli boss Luciano Spalletti feels, the striker didn’t get enough service from his teammates.

“This thing of cutting inside to the stronger foot does give us opportunities at the back post, we scored many goals like that this season, as the full-back has to cut in. But we didn’t do that enough today (on Tuesday).

“Kvaratskhelia found himself 20 times in one against one situations and Calabria did really well. He created chances, firing over the bar and forcing the situation, but that’s how it went,” the Napoli boss lamented.

Luciano Spalletti also believes, Osimhen’s latest injury made things difficult for his side over the two legs.

“Some of our players who came back from international duty were struggling, especially Osimhen who was out for 20 days after that injury. Then a few errors and a few injustices from the referee [cost us],” He said
