Southampton Rejects Lowball Offer for Onuachu

Southampton manager Russell Martin has disclosed that the club has received a bid for striker Paul Onuachu, but it falls significantly short of their valuation.

Onuachu, 30, impressed last season while on loan at Turkish Super Lig side Trabzonspor, where he scored 15 goals in 25 league appearances.

Trabzonspor, keen to secure the Nigerian forward on a permanent basis, are yet to meet Southampton’s asking price.

“We’ve had one bid for Paul and it was nowhere near the valuation of the club,” Martin told the Daily Echo. He praised Onuachu’s professionalism since his return to training.

“Paul’s been great. He’s trained really well and we’ve had a good chat. He’s been really honest with me. I’ve been really honest with him.”

Martin confirmed that Onuachu has not submitted a transfer request and is committed to his training regimen.

“There’s been no transfer request as far as I know. If I get told anything different, I’ll tell you. But so far, no. He’s training hard; you’ve probably seen that yourself.

“He’s not ready to play yet. He’s only been back since Sunday so we’ll have to wait and see.”
