Southampton Cuts Losses on Onuachu, Agrees to Deal with Trabzonspor

After extended negotiations, Trabzonspor and Southampton have resolved their differences and agreed on a €7 million transfer fee for Nigerian striker Paul Onuachu.

The prolonged talks over a deal for Onuachu, which began immediately after the 2023-2024 campaign, hit an impasse.

However, Turkish outlet Yomra Sonhaber reported that an agreement was reached on Sunday.

“The transfer of Onuachu, whom Trabzonspor Club President Ertuğrul Doğan and Technical Director Abdullah Avcı have been working hard to add to the squad, is nearing completion,” the outlet stated.

It added, “English team Southampton have reduced the license fee of the Nigerian striker to €7 million.

“While Onuachu has started training with Southampton, his transfer to Trabzonspor is seen as a matter of time.”

The Nigerian forward joined Southampton from KRC Genk in the 2022/23 season for €18 million.

However, he struggled to adapt to the Premier League, failing to score in 12 appearances, and Southampton was subsequently relegated.

This transfer represents a significant loss for Southampton, who paid almost double to sign him.

The Nigerian international Forward, later went on a season-long loan to Trabzonspor, where he rediscovered his form.

During his time at the Black Sea Storm, Onuachu scored 17 goals and provided four assists in 25 matches, leading the club to the Turkish Cup final.
