John Ogu believes fans have been unfair to some Super Eagles players who aren’t playing for top clubs in Europe.
The midfielder made the disclosure on social media platform Twitter on Tuesday.
The inclusion of the Ogenyi Onazi, Ahmed Musa, Odion ighalo and Sadiq Umar in the provisional squad to face Black Stars of Ghana in upcoming FIFA World Cup qualifiers, have dominated the media lately.
Some section of the media and fans frowned at Coach Austin Eguavoen’s decision to invite them, because of the clubs and the leagues they are playing.
In his reaction, The 2018 FIFA World Cup midfielder suggested that fans and some section of the media don’t respect players who aren’t privileged to ply their trade in the elite division in Europe.
“On this particular topic, you would pity me, if I tell you about my experiences “
“I and Nwakaeme are victims of this as well.”
“Once you don’t play in top league or a solid side, some set of fans or media will label you Average and will never see anything good you do.” He posted on social media.
Ogu made 26 appearances for Nigeria’s Super Eagles and was part of the squad that won bronze medal for the country at 2019 African Cup of Nations in Egypt.
He lost in place in the squad few months the tournament, after staying without a Club for six months.
He later joined Al-Aladah FC of Saudi Arabia on a short term deal in 2020 ,but the contract was terminated due to outbreak of COVID-19 .
The 33-year-old is currently on the book Israeli second division club Hapoel Nof HaGalil .
