Ireland-based forward, Simone Ebunoluwa Adebowale Reilly has expressed her excitement after receiving an invitation to join the Nigerian U17 Women’s national team ahead of the upcoming FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup.
Born in Ireland to Nigerian parents, Reilly was eligible to represent either country but chose to commit to Nigeria.
The young attacker will now compete for a spot in the squad for the prestigious tournament.
Reilly, who plays for Bohemian FC in Ireland and participates in multiple sports including boxing, basketball, Gaelic football, and soccer, spoke about her passion for representing Nigeria on the international stage.
“I’ve always wanted to play for Nigeria, ever since I started watching the World Cup,” Reilly said.
“When my mum told me about my call-up, I was overwhelmed. I’m grateful for the opportunity and excited to be here.”
The Nigerian U17 Women’s team, known as the Flamingos, has been drawn into Group A for the World Cup alongside Ecuador, New Zealand, and the host nation, the Dominican Republic.
