SHE’S BACK: Tobi Amusan Set for Season Debut at Queen’s/Grace Jackson Meet in Jamaica

Tobi Amusan, World record holder in the women’s 100m hurdles, is set to open her 2025 season at the Queen’s/Grace Jackson Meet in Kingston, Jamaica, on Saturday.

Amusan will participate in the women’s 60m race, marking her first official competition since the Paris 2024 Olympics.

A Star-Studded Lineup

The event will feature top-tier athletes, including Jamaica’s own Shericka Jackson and former world junior champion Anthonique Strachan.

This will be the first meeting between Amusan and Jackson on the track, adding extra anticipation to the race.

Other notable athletes expected to compete at the meet include Jonielle Smith, Zharnel Hughes, Tyquendo Tracy, and Brendon Rodney.

A New Chapter for Amusan

Following a coaching change in September 2024, Amusan is now training under legendary coach Glen Mills, who previously guided Usain Bolt.

She will be aiming for a strong start to the season after a challenging 2024 campaign.

Although the Queen’s/Grace Jackson Meet is not World Athletics certified and won’t count toward qualification for the 2025 World Championships in Tokyo, it provides an important platform for Amusan to test her form and adjustments under her new coach.

Record-Breaking Achievements

Amusan holds the 100m hurdles world record of 12.12 seconds, set during the semifinals of the 2022 World Championships in Oregon, where she went on to win the title.

The 27-year-old remains Nigeria’s first and only world champion in athletics.
