Shehu Abdullahi declares himself fit for Afcon, squash injury reports

Defender Shehu Abdullahi has confirmed that he would available for Nigeria’s African Cup of Nations campaign in Cameroon.

Reports emerged from the media that the defender is a major doubt for the tournament, after he was substituted during Omonia league game against APOEL Nicosia on Sunday.

The defender was substituted in the second half after picking up a knock as Omonia Nicosia lost 4-2 to their fierce rivals.

Speaking after the game, the defender, however, squashed the talks that he’s a major doubt for the AFCON.

“It’s not a serious injury, I just had a knock on my left thigh but I am fine – the substitution was just precautionary,” Shehu told AOIFootball.

“Not a good way to end the year because I would have wanted us to get a victory over our fierce rivals. Now I shift my focus to the National team and I would arrive in Nigeria tomorrow (Tuesday) and get set for the camp proper.

”It is always a good feeling to be called up by your Nation. I am always honored to play and represent Nigeria and I can’t wait to see the guys again.”
