Gernot Rohr’s unbeaten streak against African teams, since Nigeria’s 2-0 defeat to South Africa in 2017, came to an end following Sunday’s 1-0 defeat to Senegal in a pre AFCON 2019 test game in Ismailia.
Rohr and his opposite number Aliou Cissé had agreed for the game to be played closed behind closed doors as they prepare their final strategies for the AFCON.
A first-half goal inside 20 minutes through midfielder Idrissa Gueye handed the Teranga Lions a rare win against the Super Eagles.
The last time Senegal picked up a win against Nigeria was 17 years ago at the 2002 Africa Cup of Nations in Mali; it ended 2-1 in the semi-finals.
Despite the defeat, Nigeria still hold a better head to head record against Senegal [7 wins, 6 Draws, 5 Losses] , although Aliou Cissé’s men are currently ranked Africa’s best team.
