Nigeria Table Tennis Legend Segun Toriola will be among the Nigerian contingent to the 2019 World Championship holding in Budapest, Hungary on April 21 to 29.
Toriola made his debut at the 1991 edition of the championship in Chiba, Japan, meaning the Budapest outing will be his 21st appearance at the championship.
According to International Table Tennis Federation, a record of 609 players from109 National Associations will partake in the Championship which mark an increase on previous record figures at the last edition held in Dusseldorf, Germany in 2017.
Toriola has the record for the most appearance at the tournament by any African, Vladimir Samsonov will be appearing at his 23rd World Championships, a record among present active players.
Nigeria, Egypt, Algeria, Benin Republic, Congo Brazzaville, Cote d’Ivoire, Congo DRC, Cameroun, Djibouti, Ghana, Mauritius, Sierra Leone, and Togo will be representing the continent at the championship.
Nigeria’s Aruna Quadri was ranked 25th in the world, is expected to carry the continent on his shoulder in the men’s Singles, while Egypt’s Dina Meshref- the continent’s biggest name in the women’s singles is expected to do the same in Women’s category.
