Super Eagles striker, Umar Sadiq has shared his excitement after receiving the La Liga Goal of the Month award for March, recognizing his spectacular backheel goal that helped Valencia earn a dramatic 3-3 draw against Osasuna.
Sadiq, who joined Valencia on loan during the winter transfer window following a difficult stint at Real Sociedad, has been enjoying a fresh start at the Mestalla.
His award-winning goal came in the 88th minute of a tense encounter at El Sadar, where his moment of brilliance salvaged a crucial point for the visitors.
In a video shared by La Liga on social media, the 28-year-old expressed his gratitude to the fans who voted for his goal and walked viewers through the special moment.
“Thank you so much for voting me for the Goal of the Month, it’s time for me to react to my Goal of the Month. A good cross from Canos, I was trying to go to the second post then the defender blocked me.
“Then I just saw the ball in my front, backheel, and I just went to celebrate. I am so excited about the goal.”
The Nigerian striker emphasized the importance of the goal, which arrived in the dying minutes of the match and proved decisive.
“Crucial one point because we were losing 3-2 and this 88th minute goal gave us one point, I am so happy. Scoring this goal motivates you.”
When asked if it was the best goal of his career, Sadiq replied, “I would say one of the best.” He also revealed plans to preserve the award in a special location, saying, “Of course I will. It’s from La Liga.”
Since his move to Valencia, Sadiq has scored four goals in nine league appearances, re-establishing himself as a key figure in the squad.
His resurgence has reportedly caught the attention of the club’s hierarchy, with discussions underway about a potential permanent deal.
With Valencia still battling to avoid relegation, Sadiq’s form could be the difference in keeping the club in the top flight.
As the season heads into its final stretch, he will be aiming to maintain his momentum and lead the charge for survival.
