Leicester City manager Ruud van Nistelrooy has shared an update on Wilfred Ndidi’s injury recovery, with the Nigerian midfielder yet to rejoin team training.
Ndidi has been out of action since sustaining an injury during Leicester’s 2-2 draw with Brighton & Hove Albion on December 8.
Speaking to the club’s official website, Van Nistelrooy confirmed that while Ndidi is making progress, his return to the squad is still a few weeks away.
“He’s continuing his individual training,” the Dutchman said. “He’s not yet with the team. He’s pushing harder on an individual basis. Hopefully, we can welcome him to team training over the coming weeks.”
The Foxes have struggled in Ndidi’s absence, losing all five of their matches since his injury.
They’ve suffered defeats to Newcastle United, Wolverhampton Wanderers, Liverpool, Manchester City, and Aston Villa, scoring just two goals while conceding a staggering fourteen.
Leicester City will face Queens Park Rangers in an Emirates FA Cup third-round clash at the King Power Stadium on Saturday, but the team remains in dire straits in the Premier League.
Currently sitting 19th on the table with only three wins from 20 games, Leicester are battling to avoid relegation.
Although Ndidi’s return would provide a much-needed boost for the 2016 Premier League champions, significant improvements will be required to secure their top-flight status.
With eight points separating them from bottom-placed Southampton, Van Nistelrooy and his squad face a tough challenge in turning their season around.
