Super Eagles boss, Gernot Rohr is relieved after his wards secured a hard fought 2-1 win over the Blue Sharks Of Cape Verde in their second Group C game of the 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.
The three time African champions came back from a goal down to beat their hosts at the Estadio Municipal Aderito Sena, Mindelo on Tuesday evening.
Dylan Tavares gave the Blue Sharks the lead inside the opening 20 minutes, before Victor Osimhen equalized 10 minutes later.
It became 1–2 to the Super Eagles in the 76th minute, when Cape Verde’s Kenny Santos scored an own goal.
Nigeria, however, held on to win the game and made it six points from two matches.
Speaking after the game, Rohr gave kudos to the boys for grinding out victory, despite the challenges.
“It was a difficult game for us, we needed to built a new team, it wasn’t easy, but in Nigeria we have abundant talents.”
“We are happy to win this game, it is not easy to come back, the goal we conceded was unfortunate. We need to continue winning and play well.” He said.
