Rivers United through to CAF Confederation Cup Quarter-final

Rivers United have qualified for the quarter-final of the CAF Confederation Cup following a 2-2 home draw against Diables Noirs on Sunday.

Prior to the kick off, Stanley Eguma’s side needed to avoid defeat to be guaranteed a place in the last eight, and they had to do it the hard way coming from behind.

The Pride of Rivers fell behind in the 27th minute, no thanks to an unfortunate own goal from Emmanuel Ampiah.

Rivers United managed to drag themselves back into the game after the restart when Joseph Onoja restored parity early in the second half.

Top forward Nyima Nwagua then put the Nigerian Champions ahead with eighteen minutes left to play, but Egalisse Bassinga levelled the game again for the Congolese ten minutes later.

Both side settled for a share of the spoils and it was enough for the Nigerian champions to go through with ten points from five matches.

Rivers United will play ASEC Mimosa away in the final group game of the group.
