Rivers United Players Threaten Boycott

In the aftermath of their recent loss to Dreams FC in the CAF Confederation Cup, tensions rise as Rivers United players clashed with officials over withheld allowances and Estacodes.

The decision to slash these benefits comes in the wake of the defeat, with Rivers United players still awaiting their November salaries.

The club reportedly issued a warning, contemplating a reduction to half salary if performance does not improve.

An anonymous player revealed to BRL about the growing frustration, hinting at a potential boycott of training and matches.

“They gave us half of the Estacodes before we left for the game, promising to complete the payment after the game.”

“When we requested for the money, they refused to pay, sighting the outcome of the game which wasn’t part of the agreement.”

“In addition, we are yet to receive November salary and we got information they are planning to place the entire squad on half salary.”

“Now our position is simple, we are contemplating of boycotting training and the next games if something isn’t done about it.”

“We have worked hard for this money, we are bread winners as well,” He said.

Rivers United won their opening game of the competition thrashing Academica Petroleos de Lobito 3-0 in Uyo before suffering 2-1 defeat in Ghana against Dreams FC.
