“Rivers United is a straight jacket team”, Says Imama Amapakabo

Abia Warriors boss Imama Amapakabo revealed how masterminded his side’s important draw against Rivers United at the AdokiyeAmiesimaka’s Stadiumon Sunday.

Prior to the match, Rivers United were the only team in the NPFL with 100 percent home record this season , but Sunday’s goalless draw means Abia Warriors became the first team to leave Port Harcourt with a point.

Speaking to the press after game, the former Super Eagles assistant gaffer provided tactical explanations on how his side halted Rivers United incredible run of results at home.

“We knew for sure like I told my team, they’re a straight jacket team – they have one way to play and they can’t deviate from that play.

“We knew from what they played in their last game when they won, that they had two very physical enough ball players in the middle. Their strength was going to come from the sides, in Aguda and Eso.”

“We prepared for them, we organised, our defence had to move, we had to keep shape, and not run anyhow out of positions. We knew that once we were able to keep our lines perfectly, we’d be able to get the result.” He said.

The former Rangers International boss, added his side should have won the game.

“Arguably, I think you can say we had the best chance of the game.Predictably too, we knew that they were going to shoot from outsidethe box, and great game from goalkeeper” he concluded.
