Rivers United eager for Flying start to League season against Rangers

Rivers United captain Captain Festus Austin says the team want to domestic campaign on a positive note and they are battle ready for Rangers.

Rangers play Rivers United at the Adokiye Amiesimaka stadium in their opening match in 2020-2021 NPFL season.

Wednesday’s game will be Rivers United’s fourth match of the season, with the other three coming in the CAF Confederation Cup competition.

Speaking ahead of the match, Austin said the squad is aware of the expectations from fans and they also know the importance of the match as well.

He added that they have to forget the performance in South Africa and focus on getting their league campaign off flying start.

“We just came back from South Africa with a good result and we the players have put that behind us as this is a league match and it’s another different ball game.

” We are playing a big side, a tactical side and a big team in Nigeria and I think we will need to step up our game. We know how important the three point is, so we don’t afford to lose any point at home now. We just have to go all out, ” said the Central defender.

Meanwhile, coach Stanley Eguma may be forced to reshuffle his team to the team that defeated Bloemfontein Celtic last time out.

Kazie Enyinnaya, Bamba Bakari, Fabian Nworie and Ifeanyi Anaemena maybe rested, while goalkeeper Ospino Egbe is not included in the squad.

New signings Bobby Clement and Godwin Aguda could make their league debut against their former club.
