Rivers United continues their blistering start to the NPFL season following a flawless 3-0 win against Kwara United in Port Harcourt on Sunday.
Coach Stanley Eguma made five changes from the starters against Abia Warriors with Konan Roffin and Fabien Nworie all starting.
Rivers United dominated the game from the start and in the 32nd minute went ahead through Ifeanyi Anaemena’s bullet header.
The defender took advantage of a goalkeeping blunder by Abdul-Lateef to break the deadlock.
Rivers United doubled their lead a minute later as Stephen Gopey dribbled brilliantly past his markers, before flipping a pass to an unmarked Godwin Aguda who fired into the net with his left foot.
Kwara United’s first shot on target came in the 68th minute. Highly rated youngster Afeez Nosiru unleashed a low drive from the edge of the of box, but Theophilus Afelokhai was equal to the task.
The situation went from bad to worse for Abdullahi Biffo’s side as Afeez Nasiru was given his marching orders for a foul on Kazie Enyinnaya in the 77th minute .
Rivers United were awarded a penalty in the stoppage time after Ejeh Isaiah handled the ball in his box.
The referee send off the defender and Chika Godwin converted from the spot to make it three with the last kick of the game.
