Rivers United captain Festus Austin has announced his retirement from active football.
The Pride of Rivers on Monday confirmed the defender had called time on his playing career, announcing his appointment as the team coordinator.
“I am not a man of many words but I can honestly say that playing football is all I have ever wanted to do, and to have had such a long and successful career at Rivers United is a real honour.
“On my new role, I will continue to give my best towards the growth and success of the club.” The 34-year-old said.
Festus won two Nigeria Football League title with his home town team, including 2022 as a captain.
He also played for the Nigeria U-17 team and participated in the 2005 UEFA-CAF Meridian Cup.
He was part of the Nigeria U-17 at the African U-17 Championship in Gambia.
