Jigawa Golden Stars proved they wanted it more in their NPFL match against Kano Pillars in the grounds where both teams will play for this season.
Coming off a three game winless streak the new promoted side stunned four times champions, Pillars, 1-0 to pick their first league win of the season.
It came as a huge relief for the team but more so it also showed the determination of Rabiu Tata’s men.
An early strike in the opening seven minutes from Mohamed Yusuf stunned Pillars but they couldn’t find a way back as Jigawa sealed their first win over Masu Gida.
The feeling on the morning after is great confirmed, midfielder Lengkat Issah who told brila.net that the victory has the team in “high spirit”.
He also described the key conversation among the players prior kick off, one that perhaps spurred the performance on Wednesday.
‘We were able to talk to ourselves, as a team. Knowing fully how important every game is to us.
‘If we really wanted to remain in the NPFL we knew only a great performance would do; we need not drop points.
‘With sheer determination, we recorded our first win.’
