German manager Bruno Labbadia has declined an offer to coach the Nigerian national football team, the Super Eagles, according to reports from German media outlet Kicker.
The Nigeria Football Federation had previously announced that they had reached an agreement with Labbadia, who has previously managed Bundesliga clubs Hamburger SV and Bayer Leverkusen, to become the Super Eagles’ 37th head coach.
However, on Friday Labbadia decided to turn down the role, citing organizational issues, despite having reached an agreement on financial terms.
It is also understood that Labbadia was upset with the NFF’s premature announcement of his appointment before the contract had been signed and while some details were still being negotiated.
In light of this development, the NFF may now consider appointing Austin Eguavoen to lead the team in the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Benin Republic and Rwanda.
