English Championship side Queens Park Rangers (QPR) are reportedly keen on securing the services of Stanley Nwabali.
Nwabali, 27, who played a pivotal role in Nigeria’s journey to the Africa Cup of Nations final earlier this year, currently plying his trade with South African outfit Chippa United.
However, he is set to become a free agent at the end of the season, having opted not to renew his contract with the club.
This isn’t the first time QPR has shown interest in the shot-stopper; the Championship club was linked with Nwabali during the January transfer window, though a move failed to materialize.
With Asmir Begovic, QPR’s current first-choice goalkeeper, facing scrutiny this season and nearing the twilight of his career at 36, the London-based club is likely to be in the market for a new goalkeeper this summer.
While QPR is leading the race for Nwabali’s signature, they face competition from Belgian side Union St Gilloise and Saudi Arabian outfit Al Ettifaq.
Despite interest from multiple quarters, Nwabali is yet to receive any firm offers.
Nonetheless, his standout performances, both domestically and on the international stage, have not gone unnoticed, making him a sought-after prospect for potential suitors.
